how to go about filing a discrimation suit against my company?

i have been with my company for the last three years. i am an assistant property manager for a apartment complex. we had a manager position open up and i applied for it. with in the company i would be the next inline to have a position. i went to interview with the president of the company today and the hr manager came too. the asked me a couple of questions and stated that i needed to dress for the position that i wanted. i needed to maybe shape my hair around my face, i should wear a little more make-up everyday. go and spend money to by myself some nice pants ( or power suits it how i look at it.) can they do this???? i dress to my company standards on a daily bases. i do not wear a lot of make up because i can not. my hair is how i like it.
